In Kharkiv, a border guard promised to help a colleague for a bribe

The Kharkiv border guard was suspected of abuse of influence. According to the State Bureau of Investigation, he demanded a bribe from his colleague, who wanted to transfer from the border service department to the border detachment department. The defendant said that he could “resolve this issue by talking to the right people.”

He wanted $7,500 for this. He argued that this was a complicated procedure and that only by using his authority could he help with the transfer.

On March 28, a meeting took place near one of the Kharkov cinemas, during which the suspect received a bribe. Immediately after this he was detained.

The border guard was notified of suspicion of receiving an unlawful benefit for himself for influencing the decision-making of a person authorized to perform the functions of the state, combined with extortion (Part 3 of Article 369-2 of the Criminal Code).
