Zelenskyy spoke about amnesty for deserters
There are different situations that lead to the fact that a soldier leaves his destination. And each of them must be assessed separately.
President of Ukraine Volodymyr Zelenskyy spoke about this at a meeting with students.
“For what reason did the person leave the place, what happened as a result of this? Each situation is different, you cannot generalize everyone. I will tell you as an example,” the president said.
He explained that in some cases, a situation arises that a person wanted to transfer from one brigade to another, but not because it was dangerous, but because he did not find a normal relationship with the commander.
“And he left his place of duty. This happens, and I don’t see any serious crime here... This is one story,” he said.
However, according to the head of state, there are other types of situations when an unauthorized change of position by a serviceman, or several at once, can lead to tragic consequences.
"The second story. There were people, I won’t say where, because it will be clear what happened. Imagine that people talked among themselves, and some group left their place. And because they went, and the front line is long and the distance between one company and another may not be small, due to the fact that they went, surrounded a large number of people and killed everyone.Due to the fact that one person was able to put pressure on his entourage and intimidate them, they retreated. The question is not that they retreated, but that many people died because of this man,” the president emphasized.
Taking into account the above, Zelenskyy concluded that in the case of deserters, one must act according to the law.
“You have to answer according to the law. You can’t give everyone a general amnesty,” he said.
