Germany and Norway will donate an IRIS-T battery to Ukraine in the fall
Norway, in cooperation with Germany, will transfer to Ukraine in the fall a full battery of the IRIS-T anti-aircraft complex to strengthen air defence.
This is stated in a press release from the Norwegian government.
“The brutal attacks we have seen this week show why it is so important for Ukrainians to have greater protection from Russian air attacks. In cooperation with Germany, Norway will transfer a complete IRIS-T air defense battery to Ukraine this fall,” said Norwegian Prime Minister Jonas Gahr Støre.
Foreign Minister Espen Bart Eide stressed that Ukrainians have a better understanding of what they need. "That’s why we communicate closely with Ukraine as we determine exactly how we should direct our support to the country," he said.
This transfer of IRIS-T will be financed under the Norwegian Nansen Support Program for Ukraine.
It is noted that, in addition to increasing the allocation of funds for the German initiative to strengthen air defense Immediate Action for Air Defence initiative, Norway is providing funds for international efforts to repair and maintain air defense equipment in Ukraine. This support is provided through third countries.
