AF have released rare footage of the use of AASM Hammer aerial bombs

The Air Force shared footage of the use of French AASM Hammer guided bombs against the enemy by pilot Oleksandr Mihul of the 40th Tactical Aviation Brigade of the Center Air Command, who died on August 12, 2024.

This was reported by the representative of the Ukrainian Air Force, Colonel Yuriy Ihnat.

I am publishing footage of the use of French AASM Hammer guided air bombs, filmed by a Ukrainian pilot, earlier than planned – in memory of Oleksandr. He died while performing a combat mission on August 12, 2024."

Ignat notes that the tactics of using American AGM-88 HARM anti-radar missiles, GBU-62 JDAM-ER or French Hammer bombs are associated with serious risks for pilots.

To successfully complete a combat mission, Ukrainian pilots have to get close to enemy air defence systems and fighters and use complex tactical techniques.

"Because of all these risks - enemy missiles and the difficulty of completing tasks on old Soviet equipment, sometimes we have bitter losses," the officer notes.

Ignat added that Captain Oleksandr Mihul was one of the best - he was the commander of the aviation unit of the 40th tactical aviation brigade of the Center air command, had more than 160 combat sorties, and was awarded the Orders for Courage of the 3rd and 2nd degrees.
