Ukraine joins EU anti-fraud program
The Verkhovna Rada ratified the agreement between Ukraine and the European Union on participation in the EU Anti-Fraud Programme (EUAF).
The press service of the Ministry of Finance of Ukraine reported this.
The agreement was signed on 20 March 2024 by Ukrainian Finance Minister Serhiy Marchenko and European Commissioner for Budgetary Affairs and Administration Johannes Hahn.
The programme provides funding for the following areas: implementation of IT tools to enhance transnational cooperation; support for financial investigations; technical and operational support to relevant authorities; development of IT capacity and data exchange; organisation of specialised training and research.
"Ukraine’s participation in the EU anti-fraud program will allow it to obtain the necessary knowledge and professional training in the field of protecting the financial interests of Ukraine and the EU, and will also strengthen Ukraine’s institutional capacity to develop a system to combat fraud according to European standards," emphasized Deputy Minister of Finance of Ukraine for European Integration Yuriy Drahanchuk.
According to him, after the bill is signed by President Volodymyr Zelenskyy, Ukraine will become the first country, not being a member of the EU, to officially join the EUAF program.
As reported, the EU Anti-fraud Programme (EUAF) of the European Union promotes the fight against fraud, corruption and any other illegal activity concerning the financial interests of the EU. In particular, the programme encourages the strengthening of the capabilities of Member States to conduct investigations, including their digitalization, and includes support for specialized training and research activities.
