Bilingualism to be eradicated in Ivano-Frankivsk, - language ombudsman
In Ivano-Frankivsk they are planning to introduce a program aimed at studying the Ukrainian language and combating bilingualism.
The Commissioner for the Protection of the State Language, Taras Kremen, announced this on the air of the KYIV24 TV channel.
According to him, the program was approved thanks to the support of Ivano-Frankivsk Mayor Ruslan Martsynkiv.
After a meeting with the mayor of Ivano-Frankivsk, we came to an agreement on the need to introduce the program in the city. We must combat the spread of bilingualism, which is a pressing problem in the region. At the same time, it is important to continue implementing the state language policy in the region.
He also noted that the decision to implement this program was made in Frankivsk, since it is the hometown of many famous Ukrainian writers.
Unfortunately, Ivano-Frankivsk does not have a language program, except for the regional one. Therefore, we discussed with Mr. Mayor that it is precisely in the homeland of famous Ukrainian writers that such a program for studying the state language should be implemented.
