In Zakarpattia, a new scheme for avoiding conscription has been uncovered
In Zakarpattia, law enforcement officers and border guards discovered a new scheme for smuggling conscripts across the state border. The organizers tried to "plant" a draft dodger on a train heading to Hungary.
They received $10,000 from him for this. This was reported by the Main Directorate of the National Police of Ukraine in Zakarpattia region and on the website of the State Border Guard Service.
"The culprits were smuggling their clients by the international train ‘Chop - Budapest’ bypassing official border and customs controls for $10,000," the police explained.
A minor was involved in the scheme, and his task was to pass customs and border controls, and then, once the train departed from the international station, open the door of a predetermined carriage. The conscript had to jump onto the moving train.
"The border crossing was to take place at night. One accomplice brought the man to a place where the train slows down, while another participant was in the carriage and was supposed to open the door and help the ‘client’ jump inside. At that moment, the offenders were detained by operatives from the State Border Guard Service and the National Police," the border guards added.
The organizer of the scheme was identified as a 46-year-old resident of Uzhhorod, who involved three more people.
The organizers were detained under Article 208 of the Criminal Procedure Code of Ukraine and placed in a temporary detention facility. The accomplices, who resisted arrest, were detained administratively under Article 185-10 of the Code of Ukraine on Administrative Offenses.
