Oleh Verniaiev accused the leadership of the gymnastics federation of corruption
Olympic gymnastics champion Oleh Verniaiev accuses the leadership of the Ukrainian Gymnastics Federation of corruption. "I still don’t know how to fight this and how to stop this mess," – the athlete wrote on the social network Facebook.
He emphasized that he can no longer remain silent: "I’ve been part of the Ukrainian national team since 2010, and during all this time, I don’t remember a more corrupt and terrible vice president of the federation than now. Constant obstacles, roadblocks, and aid are blocked, and initiatives are slowed down. The Ukrainian Championship for 6.6 million UAH for about 50 athletes, without the participation of Olympians, is considered normal. And when the media start asking questions about where the money went, it turns out I’m to blame as if I bought the media," the gymnast noted.
He also stated that the leadership of the federation is doing everything possible to prevent his personal coach from getting permission to travel to competitions. Allegedly, all issues in the federation are resolved only when "I appeal directly to the Minister of Youth and Sports of Ukraine."
"Being an Olympic champion, a world champion, and a seven-time European champion, I must almost beg the vice president of the federation for permission to travel to competitions with my coach. They allow travel only with a personal coach. And even when I explain that my coach is the head coach of the Ukrainian national team and that I am ready to go with another coach who can help, they refuse me. They allow travel only with a personal coach, knowing for sure that I won’t do it because I understand he must stay and work with the national team," the Olympic champion wrote.
