In Zhovkva, Lviv region, a large-scale fire broke out on the territory of the sports complex

A large-scale fire occurred in Zhovkva on the territory of the private sports complex «Lirs».

Firefighters spent several hours extinguishing the blaze. There are no casualties.

It concerns the sports complex on Heroes of UPA Street, 22 in Zhovkva, where international sports competitions were held. The fire broke out on Sunday, November 17, in the afternoon. 40 firefighters and 12 pieces of equipment were involved in extinguishing the fire.

The sports complex building is a former equestrian arena of the Austro-Hungarian army from the 19th century. During the time of Ukraine’s independence, it was converted into a hall for table tennis. International competitions were held in the sports complex.

In 2007, the equestrian arena building was included in the list of newly discovered sites of cultural heritage pending a decision on its registration as a local or national monument.
