The HACC announced the verdict in the case of the misappropriation of land belonging to the National Academy of Agrarian Sciences

The court’s verdict found nine individuals guilty, including six officials from the National Academy of Agrarian Sciences and its structural divisions, two former officials from the State Agency of Land Resources in the Kyiv region, and one employee of the Security Service of Ukraine, for violating Article 191 Part 5, Article 15 Part 3, Article 191 Part 5 of the Criminal Code of Ukraine (misappropriation, embezzlement, or possession of property through abuse of office).

The court sentenced one of the organizers and two former officials from the State Agency of Land Resources in the Kyiv region to eight years of imprisonment with a prohibition from holding positions related to performing state and local government functions for two years, with confiscation of part of their property owned by right of ownership.

The court also stripped the Security Service of Ukraine employee of the rank of colonel.

Another organizer and other participants in the scheme were sentenced to seven years of imprisonment with a prohibition from holding positions related to performing state and local government functions for two years, with confiscation of half of their property owned by right of ownership.

The verdict can be appealed in the appellate procedure within 30 days from the date of its pronouncement by submitting an appeal to the Appeal Chamber of the HACC.

The SAPO emphasized that, according to the investigation, officials of the National Academy of Agrarian Sciences and its structural divisions, an advisor to the presidium of the National Academy from the Security Service of Ukraine, the State Agency of Land Resources in the Kyiv region, between September 2013 and September 2014, intentionally, with selfish motives, through abuse of office, committed the appropriation of 138 land plots (total area 13.2564 hectares) located within the territory of Hatne Village Council, Kyiv-Sviatoshynskyi district, Kyiv region. These lands were formed as a result of the withdrawal of 15.12 hectares of highly valuable land from the Chabany State Agricultural Enterprise, and their market value at the time of transition to private ownership was 42,553,000 hryvnias.

Additionally, these individuals also intended to appropriate another 6 land plots with a total area of 0.581 hectares, the market value of which at the time of formation was 1,436,000 hryvnias.
