In Ukraine, there is a decrease in the percentage of people who consider Ukrainian their native language.
This was reported by the language ombudsman Taras Kremin on his official website.
He noted that this year signs of a slowdown in the Ukrainization process have begun to appear. One of the key factors is the reduction in the share of participants in the educational process who consider Ukrainian their native language. According to the ombudsman, among students, this indicator has decreased by 17%, among parents — by 11%, and among teachers — by 8%.
Additionally, Kremin reported a reduction in the use of the Ukrainian language in the educational environment and an increase in the volume of the Russian language in social networks. According to his statistics, only 37% of students communicate with friends in Ukrainian, and 39% — at home. The number of students who prefer using Ukrainian on the internet has also decreased by 10%.
These data indicate the challenges faced by the process of Ukrainian language policy amidst changing socio-cultural realities.
