In recent years, Ukraine has transitioned from complete dependence on imported weapons to local production of key weaponry elements, claims Oleksandr Kamyshyn.

Currently, Ukraine uses 40% of the weapons for the front, which are produced locally, although this was not observed before the full-scale war began. This was reported during a meeting with foreign journalists at the World Economic Forum in Davos by the former head of the Ministry of Strategic Industries, adviser to the President of Ukraine, Oleksandr Kamyshin, according to Novyny Live.

He noted that Ukraine used to have a powerful defense industry, with 2000 defense factories and workshops located on its territory, but for various reasons, they declined over time, and the country did not sign contracts in the defense sector. At the beginning of the full-scale Russian invasion, Ukraine fought with what was in stock, as well as purchased Bayraktar and Javelin, and utilized everything received from strategic partners.

"In 2023, the President of Ukraine, Volodymyr Zelenskyy, began to insist on increasing the production of domestic weapons. Today, we use 40% of domestically produced weapons among all used in combat operations," he emphasized.

He highlighted that in a few years, Ukraine shifted from complete dependence on imported weapons to local production of key weapon components.

"In 2022, we produced only 50,000 rounds of all calibers per year. In 2024, as recently stated by the president, 2.4 million rounds of calibers from 30mm to 155mm are planned to be produced according to NATO standards. Ukraine is now becoming a significant center of the defense industry. And this is the key to the security of all of Europe," he emphasized.

The former head of the Ministry of Strategic Industries noted that many developers moved into the defense sector from other industries during the full-scale war. They were all united by a common goal—to strike Russia.

"When we received something, the first thought was to strike Moscow and hit the Russians," said Kamyshin.

According to him, a whole defense complex has now been created in Ukraine for the production of various means to strike the enemy. At the same time, Ukrainian specialists are already ready to share their experience with the EU, the USA, and the free world.

"We want to become the arsenal of the free world. We want to be the place where this is born," declared the presidential adviser.
