The majority of Ukrainians, namely 60%, believe that the priority during the war with the aggressor country Russia should be supporting the Armed Forces of Ukraine and resisting aggression from the Russian Federation. Another 26% of respondents prefer focusing on combating the government’s missteps.

This is stated in the results of a sociological survey conducted by the Kyiv International Institute of Sociology (KIIS). At the same time, 14% of respondents were unable to determine their own opinion.

It should be noted that the survey was conducted in the first half of February 2025, before the start of negotiations between the USA and Russia and the escalation of relations between Ukraine and the United States. Considering the recent pressure on Ukraine, a process of unification is currently underway, and it is likely that the emphasis on supporting the Armed Forces would be even higher now.

In particular, the graph below shows how respondents trust Volodymyr Zelenskyy. Among those who do not trust him, 37% believe that the priority should be combating the government’s mistakes, while 47% focus on supporting the Defence Forces.

Among those who trust the Ukrainian leader, 69% believe that countering Russian aggression should be the main task, while 20% think the focus should be on internal issues.

"There is a clear demand for unity among Ukrainians, especially against the backdrop of escalating relations with the leadership of the strategic partner, the USA. Although we questioned the public, it is evident that this is a demand for everyone – the authorities, the opposition, civil activists, journalists, and ordinary citizens," noted Anton Hrushetsky, the executive director of KIIS.
