Scammers have launched a new scheme to steal users’ personal data through Viber

Under the guise of representatives from well-known companies, fraudsters send an SMS code, the activation of which allows them to gain access to the user’s account in Viber.

According to Ukrinform, the Center for Strategic Communications and Information Security reported this on its Facebook page.

"Fraudsters disguise themselves as representatives of well-known services or companies and ask the user to enter an SMS code allegedly for registration verification, account confirmation, or activation of a new mobile tariff," the message states.

The Center for Strategic Communications explained that this SMS code allows the activation of a Viber account on another device, enabling fraudsters to take over the user’s account.

Experts advise never to share activation codes, block suspicious messages, limit contacts with unknown users, and use privacy settings to protect accounts.
