Six law enforcement officers from Sumy region exposed for falsifying criminal cases, - SBI
Employees of the State Bureau of Investigation (SBI), in cooperation with the Security Service of Ukraine (SSU), have completed a pre-trial investigation regarding six law enforcement officers from the Sumy region who illegally brought innocent people to justice to improve crime detection statistics.
The indictment has been sent to court.
According to the investigation, the defendants were looking for local residents leading an antisocial lifestyle and offered them a small monetary reward to take the blame for crimes they did not commit. Roles were assigned to each "participant": some became "criminals," others became "victims" or "witnesses."
In one of the episodes, the law enforcement officers staged a beating of a person. Following a pre-arranged scenario, they "quickly solved" the crime, conducted fake investigative experiments, and filed charges against a false individual. Similarly, a case of alleged bank card theft was "solved"—an innocent person was unjustifiably charged.
In total, four such falsifications have been documented.
Currently, all six law enforcement officers have been dismissed from their positions. They are charged with the illegal bringing to justice of known innocent persons, accompanied by evidence falsification (Part 2 of Article 372 of the Criminal Code of Ukraine), as well as an unfinished attempt to commit a similar crime (Part 3 of Article 15, Part 2 of Article 372 of the Criminal Code of Ukraine).
The article’s sanction provides for up to 10 years of imprisonment.
The procedural guidance is carried out by the Sumy Regional Prosecutor’s Office.
