Amsterdam stabbing: The attacker who attacked people with a knife turned out to be a 30-year-old Ukrainian
The man suspected of stabbing five people in central Amsterdam on March 27 is a 30-year-old Ukrainian citizen from the Donetsk region.
This was reported by the local police on Saturday, March 29.
His identity was not immediately established, as he had several IDs under different names with him, writes dpa.
The suspect booked a hotel room on March 26 near the scene of the attack. The following day, the attacker injured five random passersby using several knives on two streets near Dam Square - one of the most touristy areas of the Dutch capital.
The suspect was quickly apprehended after the incident with the help of bystanders. During the arrest, he sustained a leg injury and was taken to prison after receiving treatment in a hospital.
He will appear in court on April 1, where the issue of his further detention will be decided.
Among the victims are a 19-year-old resident of Amsterdam, a 26-year-old Polish citizen, two Americans - a 67-year-old woman and a 69-year-old man, and a 73-year-old Belgian woman.
The Pole has already been discharged from the hospital, and the other victims are still in a medical facility, but their condition is stable, reports Reuters.
The authorities still do not know the motives for the attack. The investigation is ongoing.
