Due to the missile attack, the metro in Kyiv turned into a spontaneous shelter

On Sunday, April 6, during Russia’s ballistic missile attack on Kyiv, thousands of people used shelters at the capital’s metro stations. Kyiv residents and visitors descended into the underground with their families and pets.

This was reported by an OBOZ.UA correspondent from the scene. According to him, people continued to arrive at the metro until the air raid alarm ended.

In such a shelter, Kyiv residents stayed for at least two hours, as this was how long the danger of enemy strikes with ballistic and later cruise missiles lasted for the capital. Air defense was in operation in the city.

As a result of the enemy attack, fires broke out in three districts of Kyiv: Darnytskyi, Solomyanskyi, and Obolon. In Darnytskyi, three people were injured. In Obolon, according to preliminary data, missile debris fell on the roof of an office building – it was partially destroyed.

It should be recalled that during an air raid alarm in Kyiv, all vestibules of 46 underground metro stations are open, serving as shelters for residents, and they operate around the clock. Restrooms, drinking water, folding chairs, modular benches, blankets, and mattresses are available there. To obtain them, you need to contact the station’s duty staff.

The CP "Kyiv Metro" always asks to treat the property carefully and not forget to return the chairs to staff after the air raid alarm ends. They also recommend Kyiv residents take warm clothes with them since it is cool in the underground stations.

Please note that the same vestibule operates at night as during the day shift. Entry to the station during curfew hours (from 00:00 to 05:00) during an air raid is as follows:

– at the entrance to the metro as a shelter, you must have a document – an identity card;

– entry to the stations for shelter is provided by law enforcement officers.
