In the Ternopil region, the process of identifying the remains of the Volyn tragedy victims has begun
In the village of Puzhnyky in the Ternopil region, the search operations have been completed, and now the stage of identification of the remains from the Volyn tragedy is beginning.
This was reported by the Deputy Minister of Culture and Strategic Communications for European Integration, Andriy Nadzhos, as relayed by Suspilne.
«By the end of yesterday, we received information from our part of the Ukrainian expedition that the remains of 42 people were discovered. They have already been retrieved, and they sent us photographs showing that the work itself is completed. So, in fact, I can confirm this number», – he said.
According to him, DNA tests will be carried out in Poland. The Polish side informed before the start of the work that DNA samples had been taken from relatives of people who once lived in the village of Puzhnyky to identify them, added the deputy minister.
Nadzhos noted that the Ukrainian side received an invitation from Poland to join the research. However, it is currently unknown to which specific period the found remains belong – whether it is the year 1945 or an even earlier time.
