Prisoners of war occupiers will pay taxes in Ukraine

This was announced by the government’s representative in the Verkhovna Rada, Taras Melnychuk.

The corresponding decision was made at the Government meeting on May 9th.

In particular, the draft law "On Amendments to the Tax Code of Ukraine regarding the reflection in the tax declaration of the amounts of personal income tax and military levy accrued on the rewards for the work of prisoners of war" was approved.

It is noted that prisoners of war will be required to pay personal income tax and military levy.

They will also be defined as a separate category of non-resident individuals of Ukraine in accordance with the Geneva Convention on the Treatment of Prisoners of War (1949) and the Additional Protocol to the Geneva Conventions (1977).

Tax agents (POW camps, penal institutions, and pre-trial detention centers) will be obligated to reflect in the tax calculation the total amount of income accrued to POWs and the total amount of tax withheld.
