Former player of the national football team of Ukraine Tymoshchuk is served a notice of suspicion

The Security Service of Ukraine (SSU) has announced a charge in absentia against the former captain of the Ukrainian national football team, who "donated" to the Russian army. According to OBOZ.UA’s sources, this concerns Anatoliy Tymoshchuk.

The perpetrator faces up to 12 years in prison with confiscation of property. This was reported by the press service of the Main Directorate of the Security Service in Kyiv and the region.

"The Security Service investigators have announced a charge against a former player of the Ukrainian national football team who is involved in financing the Russian war against Ukraine. According to the case materials, after the start of Russia’s full-scale invasion, the former national team player actively supports the enemy and regularly funds individual units of the Russian military," the statement said.

The Security Service noted that in September 2024, the perpetrator participated in a propaganda football match. After the game, he put up a jersey with his autograph at a fan auction in Russia. This "lot" was sold for 700,000 rubles, and the funds received were directed to finance the reconnaissance unit of the 106th Airborne Division of the Russian Armed Forces, fighting against Ukraine’s Defence Forces.

Currently, SSU investigators have notified the figure of the charge of aiding the aggressor state. Since he is outside Ukraine, measures are being taken to bring him to criminal responsibility.

It should be added that the Security Service does not name the perpetrator, but according to sources, this concerns Anatoliy Tymoshchuk. In January 2023, the National Security and Defence Council imposed personal sanctions against him. Additionally, he has been stripped of all state awards.
