In Russia, a large-scale modernization of the armed forces has been conducted
This is reported by the Danish publication Danwatch and the German publication Der Spiegel.
In a joint investigation, the publications presented previously unknown details of the large-scale modernization of military infrastructure at key sites in Russia.
The journalists examined more than two million documents on military procurement collected by Danwatch over several months from an open database.
From these documents, it emerges that new facilities have been created across the country: newly built bases, hundreds of barracks, watchtowers, command centers, and warehouses have been erected, and kilometers of underground tunnels have been laid.
In addition, a silo where the "Avangard" system is located—a maneuverable hypersonic warhead launched by an intercontinental missile—has been upgraded.
Among the documents, Danwatch found hundreds of original designs for the Strategic Missile Forces bases near the city of Yasny, where "Avangard" has been deployed since 2019.
Both publications emphasize that Moscow’s statements about large-scale rearmament are confirmed by actual actions. However, the modernization mostly compensates for outdated Soviet systems and does not change the strategic balance between the nuclear superpowers.
