The Cabinet of Ministers has appointed a new language ombudsman
On Tuesday, July 15, the Cabinet of Ministers of Ukraine approved philologist Olena Ivanovska for the position of Commissioner for the Protection of the State Language.
This was reported by the government’s press service on Telegram.
In April, in response to a request from public activist Sviatoslav Litynskyi, the Ombudsman’s Office stated that they proposed Doctor of Philological Sciences Olena Ivanovska for the position of Language Ombudsman. When asked about the candidate’s compliance with the main requirements (proficiency in English and experience in human rights activities or native language protection), the Ombudsman’s Office did not provide an answer.
Olena Ivanovska teaches at the Department of Folklore at the Taras Shevchenko National University of Kyiv and defended her PhD thesis on "The Folklore Heritage of Anna Barvinok." Her doctoral dissertation is titled "The Subject-Image System of Folklore: A Categorical Aspect."
Other candidates for the position of Language Ombudsman included former Deputy Minister of Education and Deputy State Secretary of the Cabinet of Ministers Pavlo Polyanskyi and Candidate of Philological Sciences, Senior Researcher at the Rylsky Institute of Art Studies of the National Academy of Sciences of Ukraine Iryna Koval-Fuchylo.
