Zelenskyy held talks with Merz and revealed details: "It’s time to end the war"

President of Ukraine Volodymyr Zelenskyy held talks with German Chancellor Friedrich Merz on Thursday, August 7. During the conversation, the parties confirmed a shared understanding of the need to end the war in Ukraine as soon as possible with a dignified peace.

Zelenskyy emphasized that the parameters for ending the war will determine security conditions for all of Europe in the foreseeable future. The head of state wrote about this on his Telegram channel.

"I spoke with German Chancellor Friedrich Merz. Ukraine and Germany are united in understanding the need to end the war with a dignified peace as soon as possible, and the parameters for ending this war will determine security conditions for Europe for decades. The war is taking place in Europe, and Ukraine is an integral part of Europe; we are already participating in negotiations for EU accession. Therefore, Europe must be involved in the relevant processes," the statement reads.

During the conversation, the parties coordinated their positions and agreed on further negotiations. Today, security advisors from Ukraine, Germany, Europe, and the USA will hold an online meeting to align joint approaches. Possible formats for future leaders’ meetings aimed at peaceful resolution were also discussed—two bilateral and one trilateral.

"Ukraine is not afraid of meetings and expects the same bold approach from the Russian side. It is time to end the war. Thank you to everyone who helps!" Zelenskyy emphasized.
