In the Cherkasy region, a scheme of gas embezzlement amounting to 251 million hryvnias was uncovered

A gas theft amounting to over 251 million UAH has been uncovered in the Cherkasy region. The former head of the management board of a local gas supply company is suspected of illegally extracting over 10 million cubic meters of natural gas.

This was reported by the Security Service of Ukraine and the National Police.

Law enforcement established that at the beginning of 2023, due to debts to a state enterprise for previously consumed natural gas, the company was removed from the balancing group, and gas supply was halted.

Instead of settling the debt and signing a new contract, "the conspirators illegally extracted more than 10.5 million cubic meters of natural gas from the state GTS," noted the SSU.

During searches at the residence of the suspect, documentation, phones, and computer equipment with evidence of the "scheme" were found.

The former company director has been informed of suspicion under part 2 of article 364-1 of the Criminal Code of Ukraine (abuse of authority that caused serious consequences). He faces up to six years in prison.
