A weapon was found in Parubiy’s parliamentary room

During searches in the room of the deceased parliamentarian Andriy Parubiy at the Kyiv hotel in the capital, law enforcement officers discovered several units of weapons. Among them were an automatic rifle, pistols, and a large number of cartridges.

Earlier, in one of his interviews, the politician stated that he had been renting a room at the Kyiv hotel since 2007, when he was first elected to the Rada. The 22-story building, located near the parliament, belongs to the state enterprise «Hotel Complex «Kyiv» under the management of the Verkhovna Rada apparatus. Mostly parliamentarians who do not own housing in the capital rent accommodations here.

The exact room at the Kyiv hotel that the former speaker rented in the last years of his life is unknown. However, it is known that law enforcement officers, as part of the investigation into Parubiy’s murder, conducted searches in apartment No. 1706. This took place late in the evening on August 30 – the day of the former Rada chairman’s death.

In a comment to the media, Parubiy’s friend and former MP Volodymyr Vyazivskyi described the hotel room where the former speaker lived. «It’s a two-room suite with windows overlooking Hrushevskoho Street and the Kyiv-Pechersk Lavra. It seems to be on the 17th floor,» the former politician noted.

In addition to household items such as mobile phones and personal notes, the investigation found a mini-arsenal of weapons in the room of the former speaker and MP: a Kalashnikov rifle, two Stechkin pistols with ammunition for them, ten F1 grenade casings, an RGD5 grenade casing, 11 UZRGM-type detonators, a handheld smoke grenade RDG-2-B, 730 cartridges of 7.62 mm caliber, and one sealed zinc box (crate) of 7.62 mm cartridges labeled «700 pieces.» On September 9, a Lviv court imposed a seizure on all these items and weapons from the hotel room.

«Even if we assume that this could have been Andriy Parubiy’s room, there is nothing sensational here. When the invasion began, MPs, as well as ordinary citizens who stood up to defend the homeland, had the opportunity to receive weapons and ammunition from law enforcement under a signed agreement. That is, with the obligation to return them. Obviously, the deceased also took advantage of this opportunity,» one of Parubiy’s associates reasoned in a conversation with journalists.
