In the Cherkasy region, as a result of fires caused by the fall of fragments of Russian missiles, 5.78 hectares of forest plantations have been damaged.

This was reported by the state enterprise Forests of Ukraine on Facebook on Sunday, September 28.

"As a result of another nighttime shelling of the Cherkasy region, missile fragments caused fires in the forest areas of the Central Forest Office branch. Coniferous plantations in the Chornyavske and Horodyshchenske forestries of the Chyhyryn Forestry were burning," the statement reads.

The total area of damaged plantations is 5.78 hectares.

Extinguishing the fires was complicated by the presence of explosive fragments in the area. A total of 31 employees of the state forest guard of the branch, six fire trucks, and a tractor with a soil thrower were involved in extinguishing both fires. They worked together with the State Emergency Service (SES).

Currently, teams are on duty at the sites where the fragments fell to prevent re-ignition. All relevant services are also working to dispose of the hazardous debris.
