Office of the Prosecutor General: Dniprorudne mayor Yevhen Matvyeyev tortured in Russian captivity
The Office of the Prosecutor General of Ukraine has officially confirmed that the mayor of the temporarily occupied city of Dniproprudne, Zaporizhzhya region, Yevhen Matvyeyev, died in Russian captivity as a result of brutal torture.
As it became known from the response of the PGO to a media request, the death of the Ukrainian official was caused by a closed blunt trauma to the torso with multiple fractures. In particular, he had broken ribs and damaged lungs, which indicates a violent death.
Yevhen Matvyeyev was abducted by Russian military forces in March 2022. According to investigations, he died in Detention Center No. 3 in the city of Kizel, Perm Krai, Russia, shortly after being transferred, having suffered a fatal beating during the so-called "reception."
The body of the tortured mayor was returned to Ukraine during an exchange. He was buried in Bucha, Kyiv region.
The Office of the Prosecutor General continues to investigate all circumstances of Yevhen Matvyeyev’s death, classifying it as a war crime.
