The Federal Chancellor and the Prime Minister of France have promised further military support to Ukraine
Federal Chancellor Olaf Scholz and Prime Minister of France Gabriel Attal met in Berlin, where they discussed continued military support for Ukraine and strengthening defense cooperation.
This is reported by DPA.
The head of the German government called once again not to weaken military support for Kyiv, while at the same time his French colleague said that Paris will continue to support Ukraine financially and provide technical and military equipment.
“I am very much in favor of the US and Europe and all European member states making such a significant contribution so that the Russian president’s (Vladimir Putin) plan to wait out (the West) does not work,” – Scholz said.
In turn, Attal noted the importance of the quality of weapons supplied to Ukraine.
“It must meet the highest necessary standards so that Ukrainians can protect themselves,” – he noted, recalling that Paris supplied Scalp long-range cruise missiles to Kyiv.
Both the sides also expressed optimism regarding two common defense programs are currently being under development: the Future Combat Air System (FCAS) and the Main Ground Combat Systems (MGCS).
“I want to say clearly that I see that both projects are making significant progress and that the cooperation between our two countries is very intense”, – Scholz said.
The MGCS is the successor to the German Leopard and French Leclerc main battle tanks, which are due to enter service within the next decade. Airborne FCAS is due to be operational from 2040 and will replace Eurofighters.
