General Staff explained why new brigades are being formed instead of replenishing existing ones
The General Staff of the Armed Forces of Ukraine explained their reasons for forming new brigades instead of reinforcing already existing experienced units that are experiencing a shortage of personnel.
This issue was previously raised, in particular, by the deputy commander of the Third Assault Brigade of the Armed Forces of Ukraine, Maksym Zhorin.
A representative of the General Staff of the Armed Forces of Ukraine, Dmytro Lykhovyi, explained that only with the implementation of new brigades can the entire front line be covered and force rotation carried out.
"Recently, the enemy has increased both the number of regiments, brigades, and divisions, as well as the number of its personnel by almost 100,000 people. The front line has also become longer. To maintain control over the front, the Armed Forces of Ukraine need to create new brigades.
When, in the course of combat engagements, there is a risk of losing positions and defense lines for certain brigades, individual battalions from other military units are relocated. This is a natural and statutory method of reinforcing defensive actions: units from calmer areas are sent to front sections where there is a threat of a breakthrough.
Merely reinforcing brigades that suffer significant losses is not enough—they require combat coordination. New brigades are needed for replacement and withdrawal from the combat zone," explained Lykhovyi.
