Zelenskyy made the decision to replace the Ukrainian ambassador to Germany – media

President Volodymyr Zelenskyy has decided to dismiss the Ukrainian ambassador to Germany, Oleksiy Makeyev. The diplomatic mission will now be headed by the current ambassador to Israel.

This is reported by Bild, citing sources in diplomatic circles.

According to journalists, the official reason for Makeyev’s replacement is stated as the regular rotation of diplomatic personnel.

«However, behind the scenes, things may be different. Makeyev’s work was systematically and publicly criticized by his predecessor Andriy Melnyk, who was the ambassador in Berlin for seven years. In an interview with Tagesspiegel, Melnyk stated that Makeyev should «get off his backside» and persuade Germany to provide more assistance to Ukraine,» Bild reports.

It is claimed that Makeyev will remain in Berlin until February, after which his position will be taken by the current ambassador of Ukraine to Israel, Yevhen Korniychuk.
