Norway will allocate 14 million euros for the demining of Ukraine using mine-detection dogs

The Norwegian government announced the allocation of 164 million Norwegian kroner (approximately 14 million euros) in 2025 to support demining efforts in Ukraine, including the use of mine-detecting dogs.

This was reported with a reference to the Norwegian government.

In Romny, the Norwegian organization Norsk Folkehjelp and the State Emergency Service of Ukraine have established a training base for mine-detection dogs and canine handlers.

Since 2022, the training center has professionalized and systematized the work of providing dogs and handlers with the best conditions for participating in demining. In December, the Norwegian government announced that the support for Norsk Folkehjelp’s activities in Ukraine would be increased by 164 million Norwegian kroner for 2025.

"Mines do not distinguish between combatants and civilians. Removing mines and explosive ordnance saves lives here and now, and also protects future generations from injury and death among the civilian population.

Norsk Folkehjelp has extensive experience in demining, and their efforts are an important contribution to ensuring a safe future for the Ukrainian people," said Norwegian Foreign Minister Espen Barth Eide.

The Norwegian government noted that Norsk Folkehjelp has become one of 69 certified international partners providing assistance in demining. Norsk Folkehjelp’s efforts include training 14 mine-detection dogs and developing Ukrainian capacity in demining with the assistance of dogs.
