Media: The Mayor of Irpin, Oleksandr Markushyn, has been charged with illegal vacationing abroad

Today, investigators from the State Bureau of Investigation announced a suspicion to the Mayor of Irpin, Oleksandr Markushyn. According to the materials of the SBI, he is suspected of illegal border crossing in August 2022 for leisure purposes using forged documents for illegal entry into the volunteer system "Shlyakh." At the same time, Markushyn did not declare the import of any humanitarian aid upon returning to Ukraine.

The case of Oleksandr Markushyn is almost identical to the case of MP Oleksandr Dubinskyi, who allegedly left Ukraine to accompany his father for medical treatment but actually went on vacation. Dubinsky was handed a guilty verdict for organizing the illegal transfer of persons across the state border of Ukraine, and his case is currently in court.

The Mayor of Irpin, Oleksandr Markushyn, crossed the Ukrainian-Polish border at the "Rava-Ruska-Khrebenne" checkpoint on August 24, 2022, and returned to Ukraine on August 30, 2022, through the "Dolhobychiv-Uhryniv" checkpoint. He crossed the border in a VOLKSWAGEN PASSAT 2020 (license plate AI 5550BT), which belongs to the Ukrainian citizen Haiina Serhiy Ivanovych and is in the free use of Markushyn.

The only legal basis for his trip abroad could have been an official overseas business trip, however, during the period of August 24-30, 2022, Markushyn was not on an official business trip, as confirmed by the business trip journal. During this period, the Mayor of Irpin was on official leave, and his duties were performed by the first deputy mayor.

Overall, Markushyn was on the trip for 6 days. For two days, August 27-28, 2022, Oleksandr Markushyn stayed in Italy, where he visited his former family at the "Roses Hotel" (Abruzzo, Province of Teramo). According to journalists, he spent the other 4 days on vacation.

Oleksandr Markushyn has been charged under Part 2 of Article 332 of the Criminal Code of Ukraine (organization of illegal transfer of persons across the state border of Ukraine), which provides for a penalty of imprisonment for up to three years with the deprivation of the right to hold certain positions or engage in certain activities for up to three years.
