The National Anti-Corruption Bureau of Ukraine confirmed that it registered a criminal proceeding against Defence Minister Rustem Umyerov under Part 2 of Article 364 of the Criminal Code of Ukraine (abuse of power or official position).
The proceeding was opened following a request from the «Anti-Corruption Action Center», which was submitted due to the dismissal of the head of the Defence Procurement Agency, Olena Bezrukova.
«As a result of reviewing the application, a decision was made to enter information into the Unified Register of Pre-trial Investigations pursuant to Article 214 of the Criminal Procedure Code of Ukraine. A pre-trial investigation in criminal proceedings as of January 27, 2025, with the preliminary legal qualification under Part 2 of Article 364 of the Criminal Code of Ukraine has begun,» stated the NABU’s response to the request by the «Interfax-Ukraine» agency.
NABU added that they cannot disclose information about the grounds for opening the case, the circumstances being studied, or the procedural status of Umyerov within the scope of this proceeding.
