"Disabled" prosecutor from Khmelnytskyi runs marathons, plays football, and receives million-dollar payments

Denys Siryk, previously the Deputy Head of the Khmelnytskyi Regional Prosecutor’s Office and now the Deputy Head of the Department of Procedural Guidance during Pre-trial Investigations conducted by Territorial Police Bodies, has been included in the list of prosecutors with disabilities.

As former Member of Parliament Ihor Mosiychuk reported, despite having a second-degree disability due to vision issues, he participates in sports competitions, runs marathons, and drives a car.

In April 2016, Siryk was granted second-degree disability indefinitely due to vision problems. This did not prevent the prosecutor from securing significant payments from the Pension Fund of Ukraine through court. From 2016 to 2024, he received over 4.5 million UAH in pensions, which amounts to 90% of his monthly salary.

However, the disability did not hinder Denys Siryk’s active lifestyle. His sports achievements are impressive. In July 2021, he played for the football team of the Khmelnytskyi Regional Prosecutor’s Office. That same year, he participated in five stages of the Ukrainian Majors Running League, covering distances of 10 km, 21 km, 42 km, or participating in relays.

In October 2024, Siryk finished the "Kyiv Unbreakable Half Marathon" with a time of 1:15:31, and earlier, in March of that year, he ran the "Unbreakable Ten" in 1:16:32. His sports activity led to suggestions that he could be a candidate for the Ukrainian national Paralympic team.

However, such achievements raise certain questions. Notably, the prosecutor has never been seen wearing glasses, despite his eye condition being recognized as stable and untreatable. Additionally, Siryk holds a driver’s license and drives a white Volkswagen Touareg.
