In Ukraine, gold and silver medals in schools were canceled

In Ukraine, the awarding of gold and silver medals to 11th grade graduates has been officially abolished. The term "with distinction" will now be used in education documents.

This became known from the order of the Ministry of Education and Science No. 1771.

The Ministry of Education and Science of Ukraine has officially abolished the awarding of gold and silver medals to graduates for outstanding achievements in learning. The relevant order came into force after its registration with the Ministry of Justice.

According to the new rules, the provision for gold and silver medals has been annulled. The term "with distinction" will now be used in education documents instead of "gold medal" or "silver medal".

Changes were also made to official records:

• The wording "certificate of complete general secondary education (for persons awarded a gold medal ’For high achievements in learning’)" has been replaced with "certificate of complete general secondary education with distinction".
• In the awarding procedure, the notation "GM" (gold medal) and "SM" (silver medal) has been replaced with "CD" (certificate with distinction).

Despite the changes, the record "Certificate of complete general secondary education with distinction" remains valid, as in previous education documents.
