A retired judge raised his pension to 200,000 hryvnias through the court

A retired judge of the Verkhovyna District Court of the Ivano-Frankivsk region, Vasyl Tokaruk, increased his pension to almost 200,000 UAH through the court. Previously, the judge received a pension of more than 138,000 UAH.

This is stated in the decision of the Kharkiv District Administrative Court. The judge applied to the Main Department of the Pension Fund in the Ivano-Frankivsk region last year, requesting an increase in his pension due to an increase in the judges’ salaries.

The Pension Fund reviewed the request and decided: "Refusal to conduct such a recalculation due to the lack of legal grounds for its execution." Tokaruk is entitled to a pension of 62% of his salary. His pension is calculated based on a salary of 223,300 UAH. Meanwhile, the current salary of the judge is:

• 321,725 UAH, which includes a position salary of 189,250 UAH, a supplement for years of service of 132,475 UAH, based on the basic salary of an appellate court judge, which amounts to 50 living wages for able-bodied persons, with its size established on January 1, 2024, as 3,028 UAH.

After recalculation considering the new salary, Tokaruk’s pension should be 199,400 UAH. The judge agreed with this calculation.

"Obligate the Main Department of the Pension Fund of Ukraine in the Kharkiv region to recalculate the monthly lifetime financial support of the retired judge from 01.01.2024, based on the certificate of the Kharkiv Court of Appeal No. 04-35/100 dated 02.12.2024, according to which the remuneration of an active judge of the Kharkiv Court of Appeal as of 01.01.2024 should be 321,725 UAH," the court decision states.

It is worth noting that in Ukraine, from January 2022 to January 2025, the average pension of a judge (lifetime financial support) increased from 90,822 to 107,040 UAH. Meanwhile, over the last five years, the judge’s pension has more than doubled.

This is stated in the data of the Pension Fund, which is available. Back in 2020, the average pension of a judge was 45,874 UAH. Gradually, the payment reached over 107,000 UAH. Meanwhile, in the courts, representatives of the judiciary significantly increase their payments.
