The Ministry of Defence enhances quality control of fuel and lubricants for the Armed Forces
In Ukraine, the number of inspections of fuel and lubricants quality has significantly increased, including the fuel used by the Armed Forces of Ukraine.
This was reported by the press service of the Ministry of Defence of Ukraine.
The Ministry of Defence’s message states that in 2024, 5,000 samples of fuel and lubricants used by the Armed Forces of Ukraine were tested. For comparison, in 2022, 1,500 fuel and engine oil samples for the armed forces were tested, and in 2023, 4,000 samples.
The quality checks of fuel and lubricants for the Armed Forces are conducted by specialists of the Central Quality Control Department. Many processes are automated, which minimizes potential errors.
Thanks to enhanced quality control of fuel and lubricants for the armed forces, poor-quality fuel and engine oil do not reach use in military equipment. Poor-quality fuel and lubricants can cause military equipment to malfunction.
The State Ecological Inspectorate suspended the quality inspections of gasoline and diesel fuel at Ukrainian gas stations in March 2022 after the full-scale invasion of Ukraine by Russian occupation forces. However, in 2024, the State Ecological Inspectorate resumed fuel quality inspections during martial law. These are unscheduled inspections conducted in the presence of threats to human life and health, if there is a need to protect the natural environment, and ensure state security.
Meanwhile, in early 2025, the Consumer Expertise Institute conducted laboratory tests of A-95 gasoline and concluded that its quality in Ukraine has noticeably improved recently. This happened after the excise duties on gasoline, diesel fuel, and liquefied gas were raised in our country on January 1, 2025. The reason behind the sharp improvement in the quality of A-95 gasoline at Ukrainian gas stations remains unknown. It is possible that the margin size is so large that there is no sense in falsifying the fuel. Or the police have stopped the activities of several major producers of counterfeit fuel.
It should be noted that in March 2025, there was a trend of decreasing fuel prices in Ukraine. Currently, A-95 gasoline costs an average of 55.66 UAH per liter, diesel fuel – 54.36 UAH per liter, and auto gas – 36.13 UAH per liter. The cheapest places to refuel gasoline and diesel vehicles are in the Zakarpattia region. There, A-95 gasoline costs an average of 54.27 UAH per liter, and diesel – 52.81 UAH per liter.
