In Ukraine, a network selling counterfeit mobile equipment was eliminated: caused 38 million in damages

Detectives of the Main Division of Detectives of the Bureau of Economic Security of Ukraine, with the operational support of the Cyber Police Department officers, completed the pre-trial investigation in the case concerning the illegal use of trademarks and industrial designs of a well-known brand of mobile phones and accessories.

It was established that in the Khmelnytsky region, a group of individuals organized a scheme for the supply and sale of counterfeit gadgets. The offenders ordered products from Chinese manufacturers and then sold chargers, cables, headphones, and smartwatches under the guise of originals, using the trademarks of an international company. The goods were distributed throughout Ukraine using a website and a Telegram channel. Thus, the trademark owner suffered damage exceeding 38 million UAH.

Law enforcement conducted 5 searches in the Zhytomyr and Khmelnytskyi regions, during which counterfeit products were seized. Specifically, 1500 smartwatches, over 2900 various headphones, and 36 chargers were confiscated.

One of the case participants has been notified of suspicion under two articles of the Criminal Code of Ukraine.

During the pre-trial investigation, the issue of compensation for the damage caused to the trademark owner by the suspect was resolved, with the entrepreneur admitting guilt. Currently, two charges have been submitted to the court.

The operational support was carried out by officers of the Cyber Police Department of the National Police of Ukraine and the Department of Strategic Economic Security Detectives of the Bureau of Economic Security of Ukraine. The procedural guidance was provided by prosecutors from the Office of the Prosecutor General of Ukraine.
