The Vatican will facilitate the liberation of Ukrainian media personnel from Russian captivity
The Holy See will use its diplomatic channels to secure the release of Ukrainian media personnel from Russian captivity.
This was reported with reference to the Head of the National Union of Journalists of Ukraine, Serhiy Tomilenko.
The Vatican’s ambassador to Ukraine, Visvaldas Kulbokas, received an updated list and detailed materials from the NUJU regarding Ukrainian media personnel held in Russian captivity. According to the latest verified data from the Union, there are 31 civilian media representatives and at least one journalist, who was captured while being part of the Ukrainian Defence Forces, in the captors’ hands.
Kulbokas noted that he was deeply moved by the tragic fate of journalist Viktoriya Roshchyna, who died in Russian captivity due to torture. "I pray for her," said the ambassador, expressing condolences to the journalist’s family and colleagues.
