The problem of corruption in Ukraine is greatly exaggerated within Ukrainian society and certain social groups.

This was stated by the new Prime Minister Yuliya Svyrydenko in her interview with Bloomberg.

She referred to surveys according to which, while a vast majority of Ukrainians consider corruption to be widespread, far fewer people have actually encountered it in practice.

"To be frank, within Ukrainian society and certain social groups, this issue is exaggerated and overly inflated," noted the Prime Minister.

At the same time, she stated that external observers "assess Ukraine based on different criteria."

She also defended the government’s decision to reject the candidate for the position of head of the Bureau of Economic Security, despite demands from the IMF and the European Commission, and even though the candidate was approved by the selection committee.

According to her, the Cabinet of Ministers "acted according to the established procedures: we received the candidate from the selection committee, voted collectively, and returned the decision back to the committee."
