Negotiations in Istanbul: Umerov voiced three main conditions of Ukraine
Ukraine outlined three key conditions during negotiations with Russia in Istanbul, which took place on July 23.
This information was revealed in a statement by the head of the Ukrainian delegation, Rustem Umerov.
As Umerov reported, he informed President of Ukraine Volodymyr Zelenskyy about the results of the negotiations with the Russian side.
The main priorities for Ukraine are:
- A complete and unconditional ceasefire, which includes stopping all attacks on civilian and critical infrastructure.
- The organization of a meeting between President of Ukraine Volodymyr Zelenskyy and Vladimir Putin with the participation of other world leaders, specifically U.S. President Donald Trump and Turkey’s President Recep Tayyip Erdogan. The Ukrainian side proposes holding this meeting by the end of August, taking into account the important time constraints suggested by partners.
- The continuation of the humanitarian direction, which includes the return of all Ukrainian prisoners, including civilians and children, who were unlawfully taken to Russia. According to Umerov, the only obstacle is the lack of a political decision in the Kremlin to cease hostilities immediately.
As noted by Umerov, a meeting of the leaders could become a tool to unlock political and security issues. Ukraine, he said, is ready for this.
"We are grateful to the partners who support efforts to achieve peace—particularly Turkey for its active role in creating a platform for dialogue. Peace is possible. But for this, Moscow must change its approach: from ultimatums to responsibility, from war to solutions," Umerov summed up.
