Ukraine is building a new security architecture after the failure of the Budapest Memorandum, – Zelenskyy
The war in Ukraine has shown that the Budapest Memorandum has effectively turned into empty words. Ukraine, together with its partners, is creating a new security architecture.
This was stated by the President of Ukraine, Volodymyr Zelenskyy, during a high-level meeting of the UN Security Council.
The head of state noted the failure of the Budapest Memorandum’s mission, which was supposed to guarantee Ukraine’s security in exchange for giving up nuclear weapons. According to him, this document has demonstrated that international promises can become empty words.
"That is why today, together with the United Kingdom, France, and already more than 30 countries in our ’Coalition of the Willing,’ we are creating a new security architecture. We count on the reliable support of the United States," Zelenskyy noted.
The President emphasized that real security guarantees must become a boundary that Russia will not be able to cross again.
