Zelenskyy: UN is losing influence, while Russia uses veto power to prolong the war
Volodymyr Zelenskyy, the leader of Ukraine, stated that Russia continues the war by exploiting its veto power in the UN Security Council and noted: the United Nations has less influence.
He said this during his speech at the UN Security Council.
"We must acknowledge that the world’s attention to the UN is weakening. The organization has less influence, and too often it lacks real solutions to key issues. This is exactly what we must discuss today. About the tools that, unfortunately, are not working today. But they will work, I am confident, if you show activity," Zelenskyy expressed.
He emphasized that Russia, a permanent member of the Security Council, "is doing everything to prolong the largest war in Europe since World War II."
"Russia is doing this, impunity using its veto power, buying influence, and holding the world hostage. The representative of Russia is present here, but, of course, not the one who makes the real decisions. That one (Putin, — ed.) is afraid to even sit down with Ukraine and the world and openly admit that he seeks only war. Instead, Putin sends delegations that cannot and do not want to stop the bloodshed," the President of Ukraine stressed.
Zelenskyy also added: the Kremlin leader appears abroad, including in Beijing, "only to buy more time for killings, pretending to seek diplomacy."
