The police officer received a $10,000 bribe for "turning a blind eye" to cannabis cultivation
A bribe of 10 thousand dollars – that is the amount, according to the investigation, that a police officer received for assisting in the illegal cultivation of cannabis and drug trafficking.
This was reported by the Office of the Prosecutor General of Ukraine on Telegram.
On October 9, the law enforcement officer was notified of suspicion of extortion and receiving undue benefits from an organized group engaged in cannabis cultivation. The police officer promised to "turn a blind eye" to their activities in exchange for 10 thousand dollars.
He is charged with receiving undue benefits and aiding in the illegal cultivation of cannabis for the purpose of sale (Part 3 of Article 368, Part 5 of Article 27, Part 2 of Article 310 of the Criminal Code of Ukraine).
The prosecutor’s office requested detention with a bail of 1.5 million UAH, but the court chose a preventive measure in the form of house arrest. Prosecutors plan to appeal this decision, demanding a stricter punishment.
During searches of the suspects, phones and draft notes with evidence of illegal activities were seized.

The organizer of the illegal business is already in custody. He has also been notified of suspicion of large-scale drug trafficking and offering a bribe to a law enforcement officer.
If proven guilty, the police officer faces up to 10 years in prison with confiscation of property.
